Overview
Storaway Self Storage, Somersby NSW
Location
Storaway Self Storage Somersby is a three level self storage facility located on the NSW Central Coast. The facility is in a prime location: it’s within 5km of Gosford and is a short drive from the wider Central Coast region. Additionally, a substantial amount of the building’s frontage is visible from the adjacent M1 Pacific Motorway, which means plenty of exposure to the thousands of commuters travelling between Sydney and Newcastle every day. This visibility is enhanced by accessibility, with Storaway located just three minutes from the M1 offramp to Somersby.
This is the developer’s third project with Storco, which is a testament to the relationship of trust and mutual respect between each party.
Building structure
This facility is a triumph of practicality, scalability, and visibility. The three level building features Storco’s single-level building structure – which is not as strange as it sounds. The ground and first levels have a concrete structure, but Storco’s single level structure sits on top of the uppermost suspended concrete slab to form the second storey. Storco proposed this option to the client as it was both substantially cheaper to manufacture and quicker to install than extending the concrete structure across all three levels. The structural steel of the structure doesn’t sacrifice strength or stability either, being easily within the specifications required for a building of this nature.
The western section of the building has a bright, attention-grabbing facade that floor to ceiling windows, Spring Green unit doors, and illuminated signage. This helps make the facility visible from the nearby M1 Motorway.
Self storage fit out
Storaway Self Storage Somersby features 634 units across its three levels and has an impressive average net-lettable area of 73.4%. Storco’s scope for the interior fit out included the swing and roller doors, the corridor and internal partition walls, corridor protection, and Fullbright Lighting Track.
The ground floor is primarily made up of 6×3m or larger units, the majority of which are drive-ups. They are accessed via the building’s exterior and the 40m long, 6m wide covered driveway that runs along the building’s north-south axis. The first and second levels have a mix a mix of smaller 4.5×3m, 3×3m, and 1.5×1.5m units. Each one is accessed by a Storco swing or roller door in Monolith Charcoal and are secured with Storco’s stainless steel latches.
Each corridor features Storco’s Fullbright Lighting Track. The high gloss folded steel provides both a convenient channel to lay electrical cabling and is angled to ensure the maximum amount of light is reflected inside the storage units.
