National Storage’s facility in Brunswick serves Melbourne’s inner-northern suburbs with a self storage offer that extends well beyond conventional units. Storco was engaged to design, manufacture, and install a bespoke wine storage fit out, creating a purpose-built facility for collectors seeking a secure, climate-controlled, accessible alternative to home cellars.

Wine lovers and aficionados are no strangers to the challenges of their passion. Storing a few bottles in a cupboard is fine as a short-term solution, but falls short of meeting the temperature, UV light, and humidity controls necessary for long-term storage. A home cupboard also works fine for the casual connoisseur but becomes problematic when the collection swells to hundreds of bottles. Wine Ark – National Storage’s wine storage division – is a specialised service offering wine storage, sales, and brokerage.

Storco’s wine storage solution was adapted in consultation with National Storage and Wine Ark to meet their specific requirements, then manufactured and installed over a 12-week program. The result is a premium-quality experience tailored for Wine Ark’s clientele of wine enthusiasts, experts, and investors.

Storco designed, manufactured, and installed over 400 wine storage units on the climate-controlled upper floor of National Storage Brunswick. The facility includes six different unit configurations, all designed around a standard wine case, ranging from compact 10 case units up to expansive 400 case vaults. Each locker has been fitted with shelving that supports a minimum 120kg with custom ventilation to accommodate airflow, temperature, and humidity management requirements. Storco sourced the internal industrial shelving for the larger walk-in vaults, and custom-designed and manufactured free-standing bottle racks for individual bottle storage. These racks both expand each vault’s storage capacity and enable easy storage and retrieval of each customer’s favourite drops.

The larger vaults benefit from Storco’s Safeguard internal partitioning system. This network of interlocking panels tightens if lateral force is applied, ensuring each locker is kept secure and self-contained.

The brightly-lit interior provides an ideal backdrop for the distinctive finish. Monument Charcoal locker frames are paired with timber-look doors across the locker and vault range to create a warm, boutique aesthetic that feels far removed from a conventional storage environment. Corridor-facing walls in matching Monument tones complete the look, delivering a cohesive interior that reinforces National Storage’s position as an elite operator in the Australian self storage market.
